Stump Grinding Questions & Answers
How deep do you grind tree stumps?
We typically grind stumps between 6 to 12 inches below the surrounding soil line, which is sufficient for planting grass, installing sod, or laying mulch.
What happens to the grindings and mulch?
The organic wood mulch generated by the grinder is backfilled into the stump hole to settle and prevent an open pit hazard. Excess mulch can be hauled away upon request.
Can I plant a new tree in the exact same spot?
We recommend planting a new tree at least 3 to 5 feet away from an old stump location, as the deep decayed root system depletes soil nitrogen and takes years to decompose completely.
What factors affect stump grinding costs?
Cost is determined primarily by the diameter of the stump at ground level (including root flares), tree species (dense hardwoods take longer than soft palms), and ease of access through gates.
